Left-Hand vs Right-Hand Fish House Winches

Left-Hand vs Right-Hand Fish House Winches

Fish-house winches are not interchangeable just because the capacity looks similar. Left-hand and right-hand winches can differ in handle position, mounting orientation, cable or strap direction and how the winch lines up with the frame.

What Left-Hand and Right-Hand Mean

The safest way to identify the correct replacement is to compare the new winch to the existing winch in the installed position. Look at the side of the frame, the handle or drive location, the cable or strap exit direction and the mounting pattern.

Do not order from a left/right label alone if the old winch has been moved, reversed or modified.

Before Ordering a Replacement Winch

  • Photograph the current winch while it is still mounted.
  • Note which side of the fish house or axle system it operates.
  • Confirm whether the system uses cable or strap.
  • Compare bolt spacing and mounting orientation.
  • Check whether the handle is fixed or removable.
  • Verify the model year and lift-system type.

2-Speed Winches and ICNUTS Drill Tools

ICNUTS sells compatible 2-speed winches with removable handles for selected fish-house applications. ICNUTS cordless-drill adapters are for compatible manual-crank winches only and should be used in low gear at slow speed where specifically listed.

Never lower a fish house with a drill. Reinstall the manual handle for lowering on compatible systems.
